In February 2022, the EPA Office of Mission Support (OMS) successfully hosted a three-day virtual training event, Quality Connections: Ready, Set, Grow, with more than 500 EPA, state, and tribal participants. This is the second Quality Program event that OMS has hosted in the past year; the previous one having been in April 2021.
EPA Deputy Administrator Janet McCabe welcomed participants, and Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Deputy Assistant Administrator for Environmental Information Vaughn Noga presented opening remarks.
Meeting highlights included:
- Plenary and panel sessions that provided an overview of the Quality Program, collaboration with state and tribal partners on the Quality Directives, Freedom of Information Act requests, Office of Inspector General audits, scientific integrity, a grant’s life cycle, producing defensible data for small organizations, and the Office of Pesticides’ response to COVID-19, and
- Two training sessions on program management and using R (a programming language for statistical computing and data processing) in the Quality Assurance (QA) process.
The topics discussed, along with the CIO’s recognition and celebration of the work and accomplishments of the QA community and state and tribal partners over the past year conveyed the importance of EPA’s Quality Program. The CIO also outlined future plans for EPA’s Quality Program and encouraged participants to become involved as this effort moves forward.
