The U.S EPA FY 2018-22 Strategic Plan released February 12 strongly emphasizes EPA, state, and tribal collaboration through the E–Enterprise shared governance initiative and many of the ongoing E–Enterprise teams and projects. The agenda set out in the plan has three overarching goals, which reflect Administrator Scott Pruitt’s core philosophies: (1) refocus the agency back on its core mission; (2) restore power to the states through cooperative federalism; and (3) lead the agency through improved processes and adhere to the rule of law.
Administrator Pruitt is committed to creating a sense of shared accountability among states, tribes, and the federal government to achieve positive environmental results. He also believes that, along with faithfully following the rule of law, improving the processes by which EPA has operated will be crucial to advancing the agency’s mission.
EPA notes in the plan that it expects to build upon several E–Enterprise projects in the coming years to modernize and streamline permitting and reporting processes, advance air quality data measurement and information technologies, improve monitoring technology, develop and improve compliance assurance tools, and enhance collaboration and communication with communities.
